Europol publishes an annual report entitled EU Terrorism Situation and Trend Report. On their official website, you can access the reports from 2007, 2008, and 2009.
One terrorist attack was carried out in 2009 in all Europe by persons of Muslim heritage (I do not say ‘by a Muslim’ because terrorism is forbidden in Islamic law).
I couldn't agree more to this document. People who commit terrorist acts are extremists, not Muslims. That's why I personally think that saying Islam=Terrorism is a wrong way of thinking.
ReplyDeleteThis report highlights the absurdity of associating terrorism with Islam. In my opinion, narrow-minded Americans like Juan Williams are just as dangerous as the separatist groups that perpetrate 85% of terrorist attacks. By drawing a false connection between terrorism and Muslims, these simple-minded people reinforce the idea that the US is up against the monolithic force of terrorism, and thus make discrimination against Muslims seem acceptable. This is similar to the Second Red Scare because many Americans also bought into the idea that the US was up against the monolithic force of communism. This, of course, led to poor treatment of individuals associated with Communism, like the Hollywood Ten. Americans need to realize the fallacy in their thinking; otherwise, they will simply breed a dangerous tension between them and Muslims.
ReplyDeletethis statistic just shows that peoples assumptions arent always correct and that people need to understand something before saying something and jumping to conclusions about a certain race, gender, etc.
